How does the Irish Scone & Brown Bread Baking Classes in Derry work?
Time: 1.5 – 2 hours
You will be shown to your very own workstation, with everything you need, and an apron.
Then we will show you how to weigh and mix your own ingredients, choose your own flavours and cut the dough into scones.

Each person will make approximately 3-4 small scones. Once the scones are prepared, they are ready for baking in the main kitchen.
Approximate Time – 20- 30 mins max
While the scones are baking, the guests are then shown how to make their own small loaf of Irish brown bread, which they can take home with them. (time – 20 mins)
By the time the scones are baked, the brown bread will be ready to go into the oven to bake (20-25 mins)
As the brown bread is baking, it is time to relax and guests can enjoy their own freshly baked scones with a delicious cup of
freshly made coffee/tea.
Once the brown bread is baked, it will be wrapped and guests get to take home with them.
Hi, I’m Una and for many years I have been in the hospitality business. From coffee shops, restaurants, to bed & breakfasts and now in my own busy cafe, at Crann Beatha in An Culturlann, Great James Street, in the heart of Derry City.
I have inherited a lot of my recipes from my mum and my sister, (some I have tweaked!), and I love to pass them on and have fun along the way. My speciality is scones and cupcakes, I think its the artist in me that attracts me to these delightful bites. But most of all, I just wanted to create a fun few hours for people of all ages to experience and enjoy and maybe learn a little of Irish Baking and have the Craic. Crann Beatha is a perfect space for these classes.
