Donegal Tours – Tours Donegal – County Donegal is named the ‘wild child of Ireland’ by Lonely Planet and is a largely Irish-speaking region bordering the Atlantic Ocean in North Western Ireland. It is home to some of the most ravishingly sublime scenery and beautiful beaches. This is a county of extremes with at times desolate and battered by brutal weather, yet also a land of unspoilt splendour where stark peaks and sweeping beaches bask in glorious sunshine and restaurants serve majestically cooked food.
Located just miles from Derry, of course we offer Donegal tours. With the outstanding beauty and countless breath-taking views we offer tours to groups, couples and individuals. This tour contains an exclusive private coach  journey around the county and with plenty of time for your walking tour at stops throughout, our tour guides are more than happy to recommend places to eat, drink and stay in Donegal. Please do ask when you are booking your Donegal tour.
Tours of East Donegal are typically 3.5 hours to 7 hours depending on what you would like to see. Our qualified tour guides will take you through the scenery in a timely manner spending time looking at key points of attraction like An Grianan of Aileach Ringfort,
Fort Dunree, The Celtic Prayer Garden, Inishowen Peninsula, Dunmore Gardens, Lifford Court House and Fanad Lighthouse.

A mystical & magical seat of power were once Kings & Queens of Ireland reigned from. The “Grianan of Aileach” is the best known monument in Inishowen & easily one of the greatest in all Ireland. Situated on a hill top 800 feet above sea level the view from Aileach is breathtaking. The glistening waters of Lough Foyle and Lough Swilly are clear as is the form of the entire peninsula. A windy and exposed place, Grianan Fort has been a silent witness to the history of Ireland throughout the ages. The fort was first constructed around 1700 BC (probably with earthen walls), by the Tuatha de Danann. It has been ascertained that it was the Palace of the Northern Princes, from a period long before Christianity (AD 400) up until the 14th century. Legend states that the giants of Inishowen (Princes of Aileach) are lying sleeping but when the sacred sword is removed they will spring to life reclaiming their ancient lands!
Fort Dunree, Dun Fhraoigh in Irish means, “Fort of the Heather” and indicates that this site has been an important defensive site down through history. Today however, its stunning natural beauty and abundant wildlife are drawing increasing numbers of visitors to one of Inishowen’s most beautiful and peaceful locations. Fort Dunree was first opened to the public in 1986 and has attracted tourists from all over the world ever since. It is a must see for every visitor to the Inishowen Peninsula.
One of the places our groups love to visit is the mystical Iosas Celtic prayer Garden and visitor centre that lays on the outskirts of Derry on the Donegal border. Iosas meaning Island of Saints and scholars, a place where you can enjoy a day of reflection in a peaceful and scenic environment.
Built in 1746, the Hanoverian arms of George the Second is situated above the front entrance. During the 1798 rebellion, Wolfe Tone is reputed to have been held in the cells before being transferred to Dublin Castle and the trial of Napper Tandy was held here. One of the earliest recorded public hangings associated with Lifford Courthouse is that of John MacNaghten in 1761. Such was the publicity surrounding the case that even though it is nearly 250 years ago, the incident is still remembered to the present day and is now part of the local folk-lore. It was in the newly-built County Gaol that MacNaghten was held while awaiting trial for the murder of his fifteen-year-old ‘wife’ Mary Anne Knox. Apparently “Lifford gaol had to be used to hold MacNaghten since the Strabane prison was not considered either secure enough or clean enough for such a prisoner”.
Doagh Famine Village tells the story of Irish life from the Great Famine of the 1840s through until the present day. Our tour guides will take you on a journey showing how families and communities have lived on the edge, generation after generation, adapting  and surviving as the environment and society around the local area changed over the years. A combination of informative story telling and sometimes humourous tales, the life size exhibits provides a realistic, thought-provoking look at Irish life. Attractions include original thatched Irish cottages (inhabited as recently as the 1980s), an Eviction Scene, Orange Hall, Republican Safe House and Irish Wake House amongst others.
